Five die, 12 injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

Five people were on Sunday confirmed dead, while 12 were injured in an auto crash along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

 

The accident occurred at about 6:15a.m., around the Foursquare Camp, and involved a DAF truck, marked KMC 810 ZB, a Toyota bus, marked TMA-244b XA, and a Mitsubishi pickup van with no registration number.

 

It was learnt that the accident was caused by excessive speed, and loss of control on the part of the truck driver.

 

Although 21 persons were involved in the multiple crash, five people died, while 12 others were injured.

 

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the number of casualties, said:  “Due to the tyre blowout and loss of control, the truck fell and blocked the road. Both the bus and the pickup van rammed into the fallen truck. 21 people were involved in the multiple crash, 12 people were injured, while five persons died.

 

“The injured people were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, while the dead were deposited at a morgue in Ipara community.”

 

Okpe quoted the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Anthony Uga, as advising motorists to desist from using sub-standard tyres and to also apply sense while driving during this rainy season.
